Job Description
We are currently recruiting for a Technical Sales Engineer to join a well-established and growing engineering business specialising in industrial control systems, switchgear and motor control solutions.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused engineer with strong technical knowledge and a proven ability to generate leads, develop relationships and convert opportunities into sales.
The Role
As a Technical Sales Engineer, you will play a key role in driving business growth, working closely with both new and existing clients across a range of industrial sectors.
You will be responsible for identifying opportunities, providing technical solutions, and supporting customers throughout the full sales lifecycle—from initial enquiry through to project handover.
This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, combining office-based work with client visits and remote working.
Key Responsibilities for technical sales engineer
- Generate new business opportunities through proactive lead generation and business development
- Manage and grow relationships with existing customers and key accounts
- Interpret client requirements and provide technical solutions relating to control systems, switchgear and MCCs
- Prepare technical proposals, quotations and cost estimates
- Support customers with product selection and system design input
- Conduct client meetings, site visits and technical presentations
- Work closely with internal engineering teams to ensure accurate project delivery
- Maintain CRM systems and sales pipeline activity
- Support projects through to handover, ensuring customer satisfaction
Requirements
- Proven experience in a Technical Sales Engineer / Applications Engineer / Sales Engineer role
- Strong technical knowledge of:
- Control systems
- Switchgear
- Motor Control Centres (MCCs)
- Demonstrated track record of generating leads and winning new business
- Experience preparing technical quotations and proposals
- Ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Commercially aware with strong negotiation skills
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- Background in industrial automation or electrical engineering
- Experience working with system integrators or panel builders
- Familiarity with industries such as manufacturing, process, or energy sectors
- Knowledge of PLC/SCADA systems (advantageous)
