Job Description

We are seeking a Control Panel Design Engineer to join a growing industrial controls and automation team. This is a hands-on role, combining panel design, wiring, and testing for a variety of industrial projects.

You will work closely with the engineering and production teams to ensure panels are designed efficiently, meet customer specifications, and comply with BS 7671 and relevant international standards.

 

Key Responsibilities for Control Panel Design Engineer

  • Design and produce electrical control panel schematics and layouts.
  • Prepare manufacturing instructions, wiring diagrams, and BOMs for production teams.
  • Support panel build, wiring, testing, and commissioning.
  • Work with VFDs, three-phase motors, PLCs, relay logic, and safety circuits.
  • Ensure compliance with BS 7671, IEC standards, and international regulations.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimise panel design and efficiency.
  • Evaluate components for cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Support FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and site commissioning preparation.

 

Required Skills & Experience for Control Panel Design Engineer

Essential:

  • Experience in control panel design, assembly, wiring, and testing.
  • Knowledge of electrical control systems, PLCs, VFDs, relay logic, and three-phase motors.
  • Ability to read and produce electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Understanding of BS 7671 / 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in team and independently.
  • Electrical engineering qualification (HND, HNC, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent).

Desirable:

  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN Electric P8, or SOLIDWORKS Electrical.
  • Experience in industrial automation or instrumentation environments.
  • Familiarity with international control panel standards (USA, Canada, Europe).
