Job Description

The yard operative will support the wider depot operations team by assisting with loading and unloading vehicles and maintaining a clean and safe yard area. Additionally, the yard operative will assist in preparing and delivering goods.

 

The primary responsibilities include:

  • Loading and off
  • loading goods and equipment, often using the site forklift.
  •  Ensure all returned equipment is checked and refuelled, with any damage recorded.
  •  Complete daily checks of the site forklifts and report any defects immediately.
  •  Operate the forklift in compliance with approved codes of practice (ACOPs).
  • Collaborating with colleagues to ensure all goods are clean and ready for hire. • Maintain a clean and tidy yard environment.
  •  Ensure yard stock is stored safely and correctly. • Identify areas for yard improvement and share them with the depot management.
  • Support the delivery of goods by driving the depot's 4x4 vehicle. • Ensure that health & safety guidelines are followed with the yard.
  •  Drive a safety culture within the yard environment. • Ensure paperwork is completed on time and accurately.
  •  When required, accept deliveries from carriers and ensure they are passed to the correct person.
  •  Adherence to the John F. Hunt Integrated Management Systems, including Health and Safety, Environmental, and Quality, and all associated policies, standards, procedures, and records.
  •  Ad hoc duties as the job requires

 

Desired Skills 

  •  Full UK driving license –
  • held for a minimum of 3 years.
  •  Experience in towing a trailer (training can be provided).
  •  Forklift license 
  •  Effective communicator.
  • A passion for delivering outstanding levels of customer service.
  •  Any knowledge of plant/equipment would be beneficial but not a requirement as all training will be provided.
  •  Ability to work autonomously and within strict deadlines to high standards with excellent attention to detail.
  •  Excellent at forging relationships across all levels of the business.
  •  Excellent communication skills, including the ability to deal with all levels of employees, including Senior Management and Directors, in a confident, friendly, and professional manner.
  •  Ability to prioritise workload.
  •  Experience of working in a team and on their own initiative with minimum supervision.
