SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the leadership of our Directors and in collaboration with our Engineers, you will have the following important responsibilities including:
Complete software and program development for the proper installation, maintenance, commissioning and service of specialised line control and handling equipment – Frequently working alone and unsupervised (please refer to the Detailed Job Description below)
Responsible for projects from concept to completion as requested Ability to manage many different jobs at any one time using both yours and Directors judgement to
prioritise these jobs Supporting other engineers in the build processes within the workshop and onsite Manage Company resources through effective and appropriate use and maintenance of equipment,
tools, supplies, phones, and energy Installations onsite throughout the UK and Ireland, occasionally throughout Europe Ability to travel 50% of the time (domestic and foreign) to various unanticipated client sites
QUALIFICATIONS:
Higher National Diploma / Certificate or higher degree in Electrical & Electronic Eng, Mechatronic Eng, Electrical Control Eng, Electrical & Computer Eng or Robotics & Automation Eng
2-3 yrs as an Automation Systems Engineer 2-3 yrs working with & understanding of Electrical & Mechanical drawings (Eplan P8 and Autocad) 2-3 yrs PLC programming using Siemens Simatic Step 7 and TIA (Allen Bradley RSLogix 5000 is a
plus) 2-3 yrs HMI programming using Siemens / Allen Bradley 2-3 yrs commissioning experience in FMCG production lines Scada programming (Siemens WinCC or Allen Bradley FTView) is a plus Flexisoft design software (Sick) or PNOZ configuration software (Pilz) is a plus Strong computer skills are required (including Microsoft office and other ‘windows’ packages) Have good rapport and communication skills with customers Have good project management skills to manage our European installations teams during larger
projects

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION:
1. Site visit and study the details of existing equipment to modify or interface with a. Review line layout drawings (Eplan, CAD) and operating procedures b. Advise on PLC \ HMI software, preferred layout and position of control sensors c. Identify required hardware, PLC / HMI / Inverter drives / Interface equipment etc. d. Contact 3rd party machine suppliers and customer regarding interfaces
2. Design software around line layout and electrical control panel drawings a. Write PLC software (TIA Step7 \ RSLogix5000 etc) b. Write HMI software (TIA WinCC Advanced \ FTView ME etc) c. Write SCADA software (WinCC \ FTView SA etc) d. Write safety device software (Sick Flexisoft etc)
3. Test software with the finished electrical panel and test hardware where possible 4. Pre-commission the control system at customers premises once installed and power available
a. Assist with installation of hardware and supervision of contractors 5. Commission system (configure hardware) in production with live orders (PLC, HMI, Communication
devices, Inverter drives etc) a. Test pre-production and in-production (I/O, Communications etc.)
6. Training customers operations staff and maintenance staff on the safe and proper use of the equipment ahead of handing over software backups and documentation
7. Draft / provide the supporting documentation: a. RAMS (Risk assessments and method statements) b. URS (User requirement specifications) c. FDS (Functional design specifications) d. Test Documents (In house test documents, Commissioning test documents etc.) e. Operation \ Maintenance manuals
8. Service work: Troubleshooting visits + Small upgrades \ new products
